150 years of education at Matakana School

The 150th Anniversary of Matakana School was in 2012 and to celebrate this occasion on the 10th March 2012 a special event was held at the school.

We had a great turnout including past staff and pupils. This celebration was a wonderful opportunity for old friends to meet, and a chance for former staff to visit and re-connect with their colleagues.

There was a comprehensive display of photos and memorabilia on the day. This showcased the history of our school. A special thanks to those who spent many hours researching, compiling and preparing these displays.

A "time capsule" was buried under our newly created PTA Friendship Garden, with the youngest pupil at the time Daniel Barnett being tasked to return in 50 years at the 200th Anniversary to open it. It was carefully filled with items that may well be obsolete in 50 years time.

Current students showcased their talents to all the visitors and took pleasure showing them around the school and sharing our special celebration cake.

A commemorative plaque is on display in the office.
