Hi, I’m Maryann Steel born and bred in New Zealand.  I have been living locally and teaching in the Matakana community for more than 20 years.  I have a husband George and two boys who have recently left Mahurangi College.  Both my children attended Matakana School and were fortunate to have their mother as their first teacher!

Prior to settling in Matakana I taught in the Bay of Plenty and Hawkes Bay.  I have also had the experience of a teaching exchange for a year, which I spent with my family teaching in Bendigo, Australia.

In my career I have taught all primary age groups, but specialised in the junior area of the school. 

I am passionate about ensuring children have a smooth transition to school and enjoy a positive experience when starting school.  Literacy is my area of expertise.

In my leisure time I enjoying fishing, kayaking, swimming, walking, reading, music and socialising with my friends and family.
